Cellulite skin

Cellulite skin – also known as orange peel skin – is a condition in which the skin appears uneven and lumpy, often with small dimples or bumps.
It is very common, especially in women, and occurs most frequently on the thighs, buttocks, hips, and abdomen.
Women's connective tissue is different from men's, which lies like a thin, tightly woven mesh in all directions.
Women's connective tissue is not densely woven and lies in vertical and horizontal paths, where waste products can squeeze out between them.
This looks like bumps and can be very tender.

Characteristics of cellulite skin

  • The skin takes on a dimpled, "orange peel"-like appearance.
  • Clearly visible, especially when the skin is compressed or in certain positions.
  • Often combined with reduced firmness and elasticity.
  • The skin may feel soft and slightly spongy.
  • Often seen on thighs, buttocks, hips, abdomen and upper arms.

What is cellulite?

Cellulite occurs when fat deposits under the skin press up against the connective tissue, while fibers (septae) pull the skin downward – this creates bumps and depressions in the skin surface.

Cellulite is not the same as being overweight, and even slim people can have it. It is caused by a combination of:

  • Genetics
  • Hormones (especially estrogen)
  • Reduced blood circulation
  • Weaker connective tissue
  • Lifestyle (diet, exercise, smoking, stress = waste products)

Degrees of cellulite

  • Grade 1: Only visible when the skin is pressed together.
  • Grade 2: Visible in certain positions and during tension.
  • Grade 3: Visible at all times, both in motion and at rest.

Treatment and care

Although cellulite cannot be completely removed, it can be improved with:

  • Exercise: Increases blood circulation which helps transport waste products away and muscle tone.
  • Healthy diet: Less sugar, salt and processed food.
  • Massage and lymphatic drainage: Stimulates blood and lymph circulation.
  • Creams with caffeine or retinol: Can temporarily smooth the appearance of the skin.
  • Professional treatments: For example, radiofrequency, laser, shockwave and mesotherapy.

Our BODY BUTTER contains ginger which restores skin's suppleness and promotes skin elasticity.

With a gua sha you can really create blood circulation, which makes a big difference in the long run. Always use our OIL underneath so that the gua sha glides on the skin and loosens the connective tissue.
It hurts at first, but with continued use, the soreness becomes less and less. So does the cellulite.
