The dry skin

Dry skin is characterized by a lack of natural oils (sebum) and often moisture, making the skin vulnerable, tight and rough. It is a skin type – not just a temporary condition – and it requires particularly gentle and nourishing care to maintain a healthy barrier.
You are born with a dry skin type. It is usually easy in your teenage years because it is very rare to get blemishes. And generally it looks super beautiful (porcelain skin), but as you get older, lines and wrinkles often appear faster due to the lack of natural sebum in the skin.

The dry skin

Characteristics of dry skin

  • The skin often feels tight, especially after cleansing.
  • May feel "too small" for the face.
  • Lacks natural shine.
  • May look grayish or dull.
  • Dryness accentuates lines and makes the skin uneven.
  • May flake, especially on the cheeks, nose and forehead.
  • The pores are almost invisible as the skin does not produce much sebum.
  • The skin is more vulnerable and reacts easily to weather, products or perfumes.
  • Often sensitive to temperature fluctuations and drying ingredients.

Causes of dry skin

  • Genetics: Some people are born with dry skin type.

  • Age: The skin's natural oil production decreases with age.

  • Environment: Cold, low humidity, wind and air conditioning can dry out the skin.

  • Improper skin care: Over-cleansing, using harsh products or too little moisturizing.

  • Internal factors: Lack of fluid, nutrients or certain diseases.

Skincare recommendations for dry skin

Mild, moisturizing cleansers (avoid foaming or drying soaps).

Our BALM can be used as a mild nourishing cleanser. Our 3IN1 is a gel-based cleanser that contains papaya enzymes and marine peptides, so it is not drying, but not nourishing.

Moisturizers with nourishing ingredients such as:

  • Hyaluronic acid (binds moisture)
  • Glycerin, shea butter, ceramides and squalane
  • Use oil or balm as a supplement, especially during cold periods.

Our face cream LIGHT contains hyaluronic acid, kukui nut oil and prebiotics that strengthen the skin barrier. Our OIL works great either under or on top of LIGHT, as it contains a lot of delicious oils with a small molecule size, so it can easily penetrate the dry surface.

Avoid alcohol-based and synthetically perfumed products. All our products do not contain alcohol or synthetic perfumes. Our scents come from the essential oils we use in the products. We stick to as few fragrances as possible and are between 0.5-1.2% in our products.

Use sunscreen daily. Preferably SPF15 in the winter months and SPF30 when the sun is out, as the sun also dries out and ages the skin.

You can use a gua sha or a dermaroller to help the products penetrate better. Very dry skin often has difficulty with products penetrating.
