The oily skin

Oily skin is characterized by an overproduction of sebum from the sebaceous glands. This skin type often requires specific skin care to keep it balanced. And sometimes it "just" needs to be left alone. Many people overtreat an oily skin condition and worsen the challenges.

The oily skin

Characteristics of oily skin

  • Shiny or shiny skin, especially in the T-zone (forehead, nose and chin).
  • The skin may feel thick and rough.
  • Large and clearly visible pores.
  • The pores can often be clogged, which increases the risk of blackheads (comedones) and pimples (papules).
  • Increased risk of acne, especially on the face, chest and back.
  • Makeup tends to slip off or disappear quickly.
  • Skin may require powdering or moisturizing throughout the day to reduce shine.

Feeling

  • The skin may feel oily, especially towards the afternoon.
  • It can also feel tight after cleansing or at the same time become oily if drying products are used.

Causes of oily skin

  • Genetics: Often hereditary.
  • Hormones: Hormonal fluctuations (puberty, menstruation, pregnancy) can increase sebum production.
  • Diet and lifestyle: A diet high in fat and sugar, stress or lack of sleep can affect the skin's balance.
  • Improper skin care: Over-cleansing or using drying products can cause the skin to produce more oil as compensation.

Benefits of oily skin

  • Tends to age more slowly and develops fewer fine lines and wrinkles.
  • Sebum production provides a natural barrier that protects the skin from drying out.

Skincare recommendations

  • Use mild, gentle cleansing products that remove excess oil without drying out the skin. Here we can recommend 3IN1 which cleanses but also contains marine peptides so it doesn't dry out.
  • Avoid products with alcohol, as they can worsen the problem. Always use a good moisturizing serum with e.g. vitamin A and hyaluronic acid, to ensure that the skin does not dry out and start to overproduce sebum. Vitamin A helps maintain the cells' natural balance. Our SERUM contains all the vitamins your skin needs as well as hyaluronic acid.
  • Choose non-comedogenic products. That is, natural products that do not contain mineral ingredients. It is beneficial to use products with oils in them to avoid tightness and optimize the skin barrier, but they must be vegetable-based.
Our LIGHT face cream moisturizes, nourishes and contains prebiotics that strengthen the microbiome of the cells. Our 3IN1 is an oil-free cleanser and gentle daily peel. Many people with oily skin conditions love it.
  • Use moisturizers. You can never have enough moisture :-)
  • Exfoliate regularly with enzymes or fruit acids to keep pores clean. Our 3IN1 contains papaya enzymes that remove dead skin cells and create channels into the skin layers so that the marine peptides can moisturize the skin more optimally.
