Hormonal changes and their impact on the skin
Increased estrogen and progesterone
These hormones increase significantly during pregnancy and can lead to:
Hyperpigmentation
Dark spots (melasma or "pregnancy mask") on the cheeks, forehead and upper lip. In most cases, they disappear when your hormonal balance returns to normal.
In the summer, always wear a sun hat and a high sun protection factor. The rest of the year, our LIGHT face cream with SPF15 can be used.
Black line
A dark line that may appear down the stomach.
Increased sebum production
Can lead to pregnancy acne, especially in the first trimester. You can benefit from using our LIGHT face cream which contains prebiotics that ensure the best conditions for the skin.
Increased blood volume and blood flow
Often gives a "pregnancy glow", but can also cause:
- Redness and warmth of the skin.
- Small visible blood vessels.
Hormonally triggered skin diseases
- Some pregnant women experience eczema or rosacea. Here we recommend our LIGHT face cream with prebiotics, which helps against eczema and rosacea.
- Others may develop specific pregnancy-related skin conditions such as PUPPP (an itchy rash typically on the stomach). Our BODY BUTTER with ginger and kukui can both soothe and keep the skin hydrated.
Stress and psychological impact
Pregnancy can be emotionally overwhelming, and stress can further affect the skin.
- Cortisol (stress hormone) can worsen skin problems such as acne, eczema or psoriasis.
- Itching and dry skin can occur as a combination of physical and psychological stress.
- Sleep problems and fatigue, which often accompany pregnancy, can cause dull and tired skin as well as dark circles under the eyes.
You can remedy some of these problems with our LIGHT , OIL and SERUM for moisture, suppleness and stabilization of the skin.
The skin's barrier function
- The skin can become more sensitive, react more quickly to products and be more prone to irritation.
- Dryness and tightness may occur, especially as the skin stretches on the stomach, chest and thighs.
Our BODY BUTTER can prevent dryness and tightness in the skin due to the high content of both saturated and unsaturated fatty acids.
Stretch marks
- Is caused by both mechanical stretch and hormonal influence on collagen production.
- Occurs frequently on the stomach, hips, breasts and thighs.
You can only help your skin stay supple to avoid some types of stretch marks. Always make sure your skin is moisturized. We recommend using our BODY BUTTER daily. Massage it well into your skin.
