Dry skin on the body

Dry skin on the body (also called xerosis or xeroderma) occurs when the skin loses too much moisture and natural oils, weakening the skin barrier. It is a very common condition – especially during the winter months or in people with sensitive or older skin.

Dry body skin

Characteristics of dry skin on the body

  • The skin often feels tight, especially after bathing.
  • The surface can be rough and matte.
  • Dry areas may shed fine, white scales.
  • Typically seen on the legs, arms and back.
  • Dry skin often itches – and scratching can worsen the condition and lead to sores.
  • With prolonged dryness or after contact with heat, soap or clothing, you may experience redness and irritation.
  • In severe cases, the skin may crack, especially on the heels, hands, and elbows.

Causes of dry skin on the body

  • Cold weather and low humidity (winter skin).
  • Frequent hot baths and soap products, which remove the skin's natural oil layer.
  • Sebum production decreases with age.
  • Skin diseases such as eczema, psoriasis or ichthyosis.
  • Genetics, dehydration, medication or poor diet.

Skin care for dry skin on the body

  • Use a mild body soap without synthetic perfume, but preferably with oils and moisturizing ingredients.
  • Use a good, thick moisturizer or oil right after the bath, when the skin is still slightly damp. This will help the product absorb better.
  • Avoid long, hot baths – use lukewarm water.
  • Scrub max. once a week, but it should be gentle. A dry towel also exfoliates a little, as well as a soft dry brush before the bath.
  • Moisturize your skin every day.

Our OIL is fantastic for nourishing the skin and can be used under BODY BUTTER, which forms a film on the skin without being greasy.
BODY BUTTER contains, among other things, kukui nut oil, which has a fantastic ability to moisturize and retain moisture. OIL contains oils with a small molecular size that can easily penetrate the skin.
You can also choose to mix the two products if you feel that the oil has difficulty penetrating dry skin.
